Play Ball 2018 Special…see below.
Whether you are six or one hundred and six, everyone can have fun Contra-Dancing….and Southern New Hampshire’s Monadnock Region is well known for its strong connection to this energetic dancing style. So what is Contra-Dancing you ask? It’s a called dance that traces its roots back to 1600s French and Scottish Country dancing. Perhaps it can be described as a little bit line dancing, a little bit square dancing and a host of other dancing styles mixed in. The best thing I can say is that you need to experience it for yourself to truly understand and enjoy it.
What’s the music like? There isn’t one style that defines Contra-Dancing…from Celtic to blue-grass to folk and rock and everything in between. Every band brings their own twist to the party.
Although there are weekly dances throughout the state, Peterborough in Southwest New Hampshire is home to three annual marathon dances.
- The Fall Ball (12 hour dance) takes place in October
- The Snow Ball (12 hour dance) takes place in January
- The Play Ball (6 hour dance) takes place in April.
This year’s Play Ball will be held on April 7th, 2018 at the Peterborough Town House from 6PM to Midnight. And since you will be staying in town so late, find a great local NHBBA member Bed & Breakfast nearby to stay at so you can sleep well, wake up to a great home made breakfast and enjoy a relaxing Sunday!
